Remember our shopping spree a couple of weeks ago? and the bargain table that we got from Edinburgh Furniture Initiative that looked a bit like this:
We got to work on it pretty quickly and sanded the old staining from the top, we thought it was looking nice and then Rodney pressed down harder to remove a little extra stain and brought up the grain of the wood. It was gorgeous, there may have been some happy dancing. When we had removed all the staining and exposed the sexy grain we sanded it again with the smoothest sand paper we had, so that it was silky smooth, cue rubbing our faces on it, yup that's us!!
We touched up the legs with antique white spray paint to hide all the chips and scratches and then applied the same oil that we had used on the work surfaces to the top. It was amazing how much darker it went when we added the oil. And here is how it ended up.
The table runner we made ourselves using material from Ikea, it was so easy, and gave me back some confidence on the sewing machine. I just joined two lengths of material together so that it was long enough and then hemmed it, after putting pennies into each corner so that it hung properly. Its all coming together and we pretty pleased with it.
Very pretty! Love the two tones!
