Challenge : Accepted
I mentioned the challenge a couple of weeks ago, after seeing a post about it by Kristen and since then have been faithfully checking His and Hers blog for more information. That day has come, the challenge has started!!
Check out this post for more information, but basically every month until March we
will be given a new random object that we need to make into something new and
original. There should be no googling or pinteresting to find things to copy or
inspire you, it should come straight from your own head (eek!)
This month is Board Game Pieces, fantastic I thought I have
already made a lovely piece of scrabble inspired art, I could just use that
blog post. But no, not only is that lazy, it was inspired by a pinterest post,
so back to the drawing board, this could be harder than I thought.
So while I was thinking about the challenge I thought it would be
fun to talk about some of my favourite board games.
My absolute favourite is Articulate, I was introduced to it by my
cousins in Australia and since then it has become a regular feature in our
dinner parties. The aim of the game is to describe the word on your card
corresponding to the level you have landed on without saying the word, sounds
like or begins with. Your team has to then guess as many words as they can in
the time period so you can progress around the board. It is hilarious
especially as the more you drink the more difficult it becomes to both describe
and understand why your team mates can’t guess. Warning though it has been
known to bring out the worst in people!! Here is us playing it at our annual Christmas get together, and before we had decorated (notice the paint samples on the wall!)
Closely related to that is Cranium, another team action game, but
instead of just describing words there are a number of activities you and your
team needs to complete to progress around the board. Such as charades, humming,
word puzzles, list matching, etc etc. I’m not so good at this one, especially
at the humming task. But again it’s a good fun game to get everyone excited and
will quite often make an appearance when we have friends round.
Rodney’s favourite game would have to be Monopoly or Scrabble, we
quite often argue over who gets to be the dog piece. The thing I don’t like
about Monopoly is when people team up and make deals, apparently that’s part of
the fun of the game but it usually stops me winning and then I get upset. My
brother as a kid was a terrible cheat at Monopoly, he would always try and be
the banker and slip himself some money. By the way in America which city do you
have, or is it London as well?
Finally I picked up a copy of Game of Life from a charity shop a
couple of years ago, that was a really exciting time. I remember as a kid being
so jealous of a friend of mine who had it. If you don’t know about it what
happens is you start of in a car leaving high school, you then roll the dice to
progress around the board and going through key life events, sometimes at a
junction you need to make decisions as to the best route for you. It is fun
playing it as an adult when some of those choices have already happened, and
marvelling at how simple it all is in a childs head.
That hasn’t really helped me decide what to make for my challenge,
or even which board game to use, I would ask for suggestions but that might be
cheating.
Who else is getting involved? What is your
favourite board game?
What a cool idea! I've never heard of Articulate but it sounds similar to other games I've tried. Can't wait to see what you come up with! My favorite board game is SORRY!
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of sorry, I'm off to google it now. xox
